The ‘unity government’ to be formed by the coalition of parties that fielded him and won the presidential ballots, will ensure its decisions are based on the wishes of the people, says president-elect Ibrahim Solih.

Solih said this at a ‘Jazeera Holhuashi’ event on Monday night, the first in a series of forums to be held with the purpose of hearing the opinions of citizens on how best to fulfill pledges made during his campaign.

Monday night’s event was held to discuss the roads and traffic situation in capital city Malé, one of the most heavily congested urban neighborhoods the world.

“In order to develop the Maldives as a decentralized and self-sufficient nation, we need to ensure stability in the capital city and that its roads are pleasant”, Solih said.

Under the ‘Jazeera Holhuashi’ initiative, forums for public discussion of key issues are to be held in the outlying islands as well.
