The High Court has scheduled the verdict hearing for Member of Parliament for Dhiggaru constituency, Ahmed Faris Maumoon’s appeal regarding his prison sentence, for Thursday at 10:30am.

On June 27, the Criminal Court found the lawmaker guilty of identity fraud for the unauthorized use of ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) flag and logo at an opposition coalition's press conference held on the 22nd of March 2017.

Faris appealed the conviction in early July and the High Court released the lawmaker on bail in late September.

Pre-trial hearings had concluded on the 03rd of October.

While Faris is also on trial for allegedly offering bribes to a fellow parliamentarian, the hearings had been halted after the parliamentarian revoked his claim.

He is also on trial over terrorism-related charges for allegedly conspiring to overthrow the government.
