All the country’s council members have been invited to president-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s inauguration.
In letters sent to the city, atoll, and island councils, the Local Government Authority (LGA) stated that the president-elect wishes the presence of all councilors at his inauguration ceremony.
LGA requested that councilors who accept the invitation submit their information to the authority before Thursday.
The letter also stated that the parliament will be handling official invitations to the inauguration.
Solih’s inauguration will be held at the national stadium in order to give as many people as possible the chance to join the ceremony.
The inauguration will be held either on November 11 or 17. The exact date has not been determined yet since there is heated disagreement between the opposition coalition and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). However, the Elections Commission has recently stated that there is no legal barrier to holding the inauguration on November 11.
