Former President Gayoom and President-elect Solih hold discussions about hopes for the future

'We discussed our current situation and hopes for the future'

Details of the discussions held between the two had not been shared

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has on Monday paid a courtesy call on President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, in which they discussed their "hopes for the future".

Gayoom, who recently had his conviction annulled by the High Court very recently after he was sentenced to one year, seven months and six days in prison, had on Monday revealed the meeting via a twitter post in which he wrote that they had discussed their current situation and hopes for the future.

However, no further details regarding the meeting had been revealed.

While this is the second such meeting between the two, Gayoom had met with Solih right after being released on bail after paying a bond of MVR 60,000.

High Court on the 18th of October, nullified the prison conviction issued on Gayoom after finding that it was issued by the Criminal Court against the Criminal Procedure Act.

While the former President and President-elect had discussed their current situation and hopes for the future, the Supreme Court had on Sunday ruled that there is no reason to annul the 2018 presidential election. However, the ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) has decided to head to other institutions ‘to seek justice’, with Gayoom having filed at the Elections Commission, to return the party leadership to him.
