Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) spokesperson Imthiyaz Fahmy has vowed that party leader and former president Mohamed Nasheed will return to Maldives as a free man.
At a press conference on Monday, Spokesperson Fahmy said that there is now no one to stop Nasheed from returning to the country.
He said that the welcoming ceremony in Male’ on November 1 will be a huge event.
He also highlighted that the Supreme Court on February 1 ordered his release and international NGOs have deemed his conviction to be unlawful.
Male’ City council member Mohamed Rasheed said that Nasheed will first travel from the airport to the No.1 jetty and then to Artificial Beach where he is set to give a speech.
He also said that details of the welcoming ceremony will be disclosed later.
MDP has also introduced a T-shirt for the occasion, which has a statement with Nasheed’s handwriting printed on it.
