The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has ‘filed’, and decided for now not to pursue, the case for which former vice president Ahmed Adeeb’s lawyer was arrested and investigated.

Lawyer Moosa Siraj was arrested on 20th September, after he conveyed statements from his client, who is serving a decades-long sentence, that incriminate incumbent President Abdulla Yameen in multiple crimes.

Siraj’s apartment was searched after his arrest and officers confiscated a hard drive, his mobile phone, and an internet dongle.

Police told Siraj on Monday that the case has been filed and that they are no longer pursuing the allegations for which he was arrested.

Siraj, who is currently residing in Fonadhoo island of Laamu atoll, said that he has not been told why the case was filed.
