Environment Protection Agency slaps MWSC and housing ministry with hefty fines
The fine is to be paid up within 30 days
MWSC was fined MVR 55,000
Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure was fined MVR 50,000

The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has fined Maldives Water and Sewerage Company and the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure for the illegal drainage of water from land in the capital city Male’.

While the fines imposed reach over MVR 100,000, EPA revealed that they had decided to fine MWSC by MVR 55,000 as it had taken on a development project in the Villigili ferry terminal area where the food court has been developed, without the required permit from the agency. The development work had been carried out from 11th till 16th July.

Moreover, the housing ministry has also been fined by MVR 50,000 for draining water from the compound on which the ministry building is located, on the 10th of July.

The agency has ordered both the ministry and MWSC to pay up the fine within 30 days since issuance.
