Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed that there have been no abductions, following reports of an abduction that surfaced on social media.

Reports on social media have it that a 19-year-old has allegedly been abducted, since late Saturday, along with a photograph of the alleged abductee.

When questioned by RaajjeMV, police media official revealed that they too had received abduction reports following which they had conducted investigations to no avail. Media official told RaajjeMV that nobody has been abducted.

These reports have surfaced at a time cases of assault and violence have notably skyrocketed in the capital city Male’ as well as outlying atolls, as such, while two minors were stabbed within the previous week, one of them, age 14, had succumbed to the assault shortly after he had been taken to the hospital for treatment.
