People have begun queueing up outside the Supreme Court three hours prior to the commencement of the trial regarding the constitutional case filed by outgoing President Abdulla Yameen, regarding the Presidential polls held on the 23rd of September.

Some of those queued up include prominent activists of the ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) as well as supporters of the joint opposition coalition. One of the very first people to have arrived in front of the court to queue up, was Member of Parliament for South-Galolhu constituency, Ahmed Mahloof.

The Supreme Court house accommodates up to a maximum of 30 observers, however it is likely that a way will be paved so as to allow a maximum amount of people to join today’s hearing.

At the time people began joining the queue, officers of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) had not been active in the area. However, officers of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), who are to maintain security in the area, are active inside the court premises. MNDF will be examining those that enter the court hearing.

While President Yameen filed the case in early October after having refused to accept the final results of the Presidential polls, four of the political parties comprising the joint opposition coalition, as well as the Elections Commission will be responding to allegation made by the ruling party supporters and members.
