Citizens having to stand in queues for long hours is pure mockery: JP Deputy Leader
The government has drawn severe criticism following this being carried out without any orderly practices
'This is pure mockery aimed at the citizens'

The state is mocking the citizens by making them wait in endless queues day and night even in this technology-driven age, says Jumhooree Party (JP)’s Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim

Ameen took to twitter on Friday, expressing concern regarding the citizens lining up outside the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure upon the ministry’s announcement that they will be issuing 400 plots of land measuring 1,000 square feet each. Many citizens had queued up outside the ministry a day prior to the ministry opening a window for form submissions, some bringing chairs and mats to place on the road. While the queues started from the food court area near the Villigili Ferry Terminal in Maafannu ward of capital city Male’, it had drawn out up to Kalhuthukkalaa Koshi, a military base on Hilaalee Magu.

The government has drawn severe criticism following this being carried out without any orderly practices.

Ameen in his tweet wrote that flats and land must be allocated to citizens, but not by keeping them under the scorching sun for hours on end. With this being said, Ameen said that this does not give way for the people to believe that this is a good deed.

Ameen further wrote that this is pure mockery aimed at the citizens.

While the government is to give out 400 plots of land, each plot comes with a price tag of MVR 400,000, including a down payment of MVR 25,000 and the rest of the amount may be paid within 10 years, MVR 3,125 as a monthly fee.
