The Supreme Court proceedings for incumbent President Abdulla Yameen's case seeking anullment of electoral results should be broadcast live, former attorney general Husnu Suood said.

In a tweet he sent out Thursday, Suood said that the case is of public interest.

Suood's tweet translates to, 'Yameen's case at the Supreme Court seeking to nullify the electoral results should be open to the public, and broadcast live. Citizens have a stake in this".

The former attorney general also shared a petition to the Supreme Court, that asks it to arrange for the state media to broadcast proceedings and for journalists and the public to be allowed in.

The petition has been in circulation and signatories have planned to submit them at the Supreme Court on Sunday.

President Yameen is seeking annulment on the grounds that the voting process was elobrately rigged by the Elections Commission. The apex court had said on Thursday that the commission shall answer to the allegations.

Yameen lost his bid for re-election to president-elect Ibrahim Solih, fielded by a coalition of four parties. Yameen managed to secure 41.6 percent of the votes.
