Elections Commission has urged to follow Wednesday night’s Supreme Court ruling, annulling the Commission’s decision to re-seat 12 opposition lawmakers.

In a statement, the Supreme Court annulled the Commission’s decision to nullify its previous decision unseating 12 ruling party lawmakers who crossed the floor to join the opposition, adding that the it does not have the authority to do so.

It added that the lawmakers must not be allowed to take part in parliament sittings, until the Court reaches a decision on the case.

Noting that it accepts the Supreme Court’s ruling, EC had in a statement released late Wednesday night assured that the Commission will provide full support in upholding the Supreme Court ruling.

Furthermore, it urged all political parties to do the same as well.

The 12 lawmakers have not been allowed to take part in parliament sittings since July 2017.
