Anti-Corruption Commission has informed the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure to halt the allocation of flats under the state’s housing project “Hiyaa”, temporarily.

RaajjeMV understands that the commission sent a letter to the ministry on Monday, stating that the commission had received a complaint from a private party that the ministry is giving out approvals to those who applied for the flats, although the ministry is yet to evaluate and verify the forms, which were to be submitted before the 30th of September.

The commission further highlighted that the housing scheme is one that poses significance to the public peace and stressed on the importance of its procedures being carried out in complete transparency and in absence of corrupt practices.

As such, ACC ordered the ministry to halt all procedures being carried out in allocating flats and approving flat forms temporarily, until the commission concludes a thorough investigation into the complaint received by the commission regarding the matter.

While the deadline for submitting forms ended on Sunday, scores of people had queued up to submit their application forms for the “Hiyaa” housing scheme, which was to initially accommodate 7,000 flats. However, housing minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had earlier announced that every single person who had applied to acquire flats, will be granted one, although he did not reveal how the ministry would grant flats for over 18,000 flat forms received.
