Saudi Arabia’s King, Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud has congratulated President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on his win in the presidential election.

According to a statement issued by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, King Salman had congratulated Solih via a telephone call.

Expressing ‘sincere wishes for success and prosperity of the Maldivian people’, the King further told Solih that he looks forward ‘to developing and strengthening’ the relations between both countries.

The statement added that President-elect Solih had thanked King Salman, and stressed ‘his keenness to develop the distinguished relations between the two countries in various fields’.

In addition, the Embassy of Maldives in Saudi Arabia tweeted that Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman had made a similar call to Solih as well.

While the Elections Commission announced the final results of the September 23 polls on Saturday, Solih and running mate Faisal Naseem won 58.4 percent of the votes against incumbent President Abdulla Yameen and running mate Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
