The company heads have told the new workers that their employment will be made permanent

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) hired over 200 employees during the campaigns prior to the presidential election on September 23.

A senior HDC official told RaajjeMV they hired numerous workers on the last day of the campaign alone and that it was highly likely done to influence the election.

“400 employees were hired in the last two years, 200 of those were hired during the campaign. Many were even hired under contract on the last day of the campaign.”

Senior HDC officials were seen campaigning for President Abdulla Yameen prior to the election and HDC’s resources and property were also used in his campaign.

The senior HDC official also told RaajjeMV that there is no work for the new hires who have an average salary of MVR 10,000 but that the company heads have told them that their employment will be made permanent.

Other government-affiliated companies had also hired new employees during the campaign.
