President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s spokesperson, Mariya Ahmed Didi has said that the citizens have spoken through their votes and that there is nothing that anyone can do unlawfully now.
Mariya stated this at a press conference on Wednesday, going on to say that the citizens have proven that they do not want incumbent President Yameen to rule the country for another term.
Mariya highlighted that the people have chosen Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, fielded by main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party.
Mariya, who is also a law practitioner, stated that the authorities have lost the power to do as they please, as the citizens have spoken.
Mariya further stated that the joint opposition’s transition work is being carrying out full steam ahead and a Director General of Transition will be appointed by the President-elect as per the constitution, after the final results are announced.
The spokesperson stated that they will be monitoring if any unlawful activities are carried out through this transaction. Mariya further stressed that President-elect Solih appeals on all to refrain from carrying out such acts.
The MP further highlighted the tremendous support received by international bodies, one of them being the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
