Criminal Court has ordered the release of South-Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof.

On April 4, the opposition-aligned lawmaker was ordered to be kept under house arrest for the remainder of his trial on terrorism-related charges.

The state charged him with terrorism over a protest in front of Maafushi Prison on February 3.

The court ordered his release without pre-conditions after he was summoned due to the request from his attorney on Monday to review his detention period.

At the hearing on Tuesday, the state prosecutor said that he was kept under house arrest due to the threat that he might tamper with evidence but that he has not made any attempt to do so.

Judge Ali Adam has said that he will decide on Mahloof’s terrorism charges on Thursday.
