Hundreds of supporters rallied outside in capital city Male’ on Sunday night to celebrate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih winning the presidential election.
The results of Sunday’s election show that the opposition coalition’s candidate had beaten President Abdulla Yameen with 58 percent.

After the win, Solih, his running mate Faisal Naseem, and senior opposition leaders headed to the campaign site of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in capital city Male’, where enthusiastic supporters of all ages had gathered.
Those in the crowd include government employees who had previously been too fearful of their jobs to join the opposition’s events.

People in the atolls had also come out to celebrate Solih’s win on Sunday, with some deciding to hold events on Monday as well.
