A fire has broken out at a fuel depot in Rasmaadhoo island of Raa atoll, leaving it destroyed beyond use.

Island council President Thaha Mohamed revealed that the fire was reported at around 03:15 a.m. on Friday and that the depot, located in front of the island’s harbor, has been destroyed beyond use.

The council president confirmed that the fire had not spread and was extinguished by the fire and rescue team with the help of island residents.

MNDF revealed that the incident was reported to them at around 03:40 and that they had dispatched officers to quell the fire immediately.

RaajjeMV understands that the depot had about 2,000 liters of diesel and 1,500 – 2,000 liters of petrol stored.

No injuries had been reported in the incident.
