Maldives has become a ‘Mafia’ state that has deserted from the rest of the world, says Member of Parliament for north-Maafannu constituency Imthiyaz Fahmy.
Fahmy said this at the final opposition campaign event in Addu city on Thursday night.
Speaking at the event, the MP criticized President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom for being unable to arrive in any island during his campaign trips unless it is with heavily armed soldiers by his side.
Fahmy said that it is also detestable that President Yameen can take stealing as a positive example. The MP also expressed his disapproval of the President's persistence in trying to teach the youth that stealing is a positive trait.
MP Fahmy also criticised President Yameen for pointing out the negligence of central banks in the massive embezzlement scandal of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) after he had accused his former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb for being behind it.
The MP said that opposition coalition's Presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will make sure justice is served for the families whose children have been slain in their prime, abducted or fallen victim to assault.
“These criminal offences will be thoroughly investigated and perpetrators will be penalized accordingly” said Fahmy.
Former First Lady Nasreena Ibrahim, the wife of jailed former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, had joined the opposition’s campaign event. Fahmy in his speech stressed that a man who treats his own half-brother, with cruelty will not hesitate to treat the people in the same manner.
