Deputy Minister at Housing Ministry joins opposition coalition
Ziyadh joined the joint opposition coalition's gathering held in Addu City on Thursday night
Ziyadh is also a council member of the government-aligned Maldives Development Alliance
Several top officials of MDA are observably defecting from ruling party coalition

With less than 72 hours for the president election, Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure, Abdulla Ziyadh has joined the Joint Opposition.

Ziaydh had made his first appearance after joining the opposition coalition at Thursday night’s gathering held in Addu City.

The council member of the government coalition’s partner Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) is yet to confirm anything to the media regarding his political references. Some of MDA’s members have been spotted at Solih’s campaign events while the others remain at senior state positions.

While Ziyadh has joined the opposition campaign, in mid-August, council member of MDA Aishath Mamdhooha had also backed opposition coalition’s candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for Presidency.

RaajjeMV understands that business tycoon Ahmed ‘Sun’ Siyam has stepped away from MDA’s leadership and the leadership has since been handed over to Ali Mauroof, representative of Kendhikulhudhoo in Parliament. It is also understood that the MDA is yet to show their support for either of the contesting candidates in the upcoming election.
