37 civil service employees from Dhuvaafaru island in Raa atoll, have shown support for the Joint Opposition coalition’s presidential candidate, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
This was announced at a special barbeque held in the harbor area of the island on Saturday night.
Among those who have decided to join Solih’s campaign include teachers of Dhuvaafaru School and employees of several state offices.
While 37 civil service employees have decided to join the opposition campaign movement, the island council’s President Ibrahim Naseer, who used to represent the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), had on the 24th of August signed onto main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
The signing ceremony took place in a gathering held in Dhuvaafaru by the opposition coalition where Naseer’s wife had also signed onto the opposition party, along with him.
Naseer served in senior posts in Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) previously as well as PPM.
