After reports of a mysterious death of a Nepalese woman in capital Malé City surfaced, Maldives police has said that the woman had allegedly committed suicide by hanging.

RaajjeMV understands that the woman's body was found was this past Tuesday. However, police had not released any details about the death until Wednesday night.

When contacted by RaajjeMV, police's media officer said that the woman's body was found inside her room in her employer's residence and that she had committed suicide by hanging.

While the police are known to share details of such cases with the media and public, it failed to clarify why this case was different that it had not shared any information 24 hours into investigation.

The deceased is 23-year-old Rajbanshi Sangita.

RaajjeMV can confirm that her body has been at the Galolhu mortuary since 1:05pm on Tuesday.

Sangitha's sponsor told RaajjeMV that she 'works as a maid in a house in Malé', adding that 'the police are investigating the cause of death'. The sponsor declined to confirm whether she had hung herself.

There have been various theories regarding her death on social media. However, police and other relevant institutions have yet to comment further on the case.
