EC gets signatures of presidential candidates for final voter registry: EC
 
The Presidential Election is slated for the 23rd of September
 
Candidates were given the freedom to choose 25 additional representatives to analyze the list
 
The signatures were taken within five days

The Elections Commission of the Maldives has revealed that they have received the signatures of presidential candidates for the final voter’s registry.

While it was revealed that the commission had gotten the signatures within five days, they had initially allocated a five-day period for the signature process.

The procedure started on 08th of September and was to proceed till 06:00 p.m. Wednesday following the candidates having requested for more time.

The EC had revealed that the process was completed after having given the chance to work around the clock for five days straight.

The candidates were given the freedom to choose 25 additional representatives to analyze the list and the commissioner revealed that ‘this will be the list followed on election day’.

The signature process is followed through for every Presidential Election following the guidelines set by the Supreme Court in 2013 that brought amendments to the election policies.

As the country heads to the Presidential Election sated for the 23rd of September, the only two candidates running are incumbent President Abdulla Yameen who is vying for re-election and Joint Opposition coalition’s Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
