Elections Commission of the Maldives has revealed that 78 complaints were submitted regarding the re-registration voters list.
Speaking at a press conference held on Saturday, Commissioner Ahmed Shareef said that they had received nine complaints regarding the re-registration list within the given period.
“We had rejected 5,626 registration forms. These were re-submitted as well. We did not count them as complaints. Complaints will be accepted if they are about wrong locations in which voters have been registered” said Shareef.
While 95,639 re-registration forms had been submitted by the deadline, EC said that 78,964 individuals had been registered out of their native islands.
The commission is to place 472 ballot boxes across the nation for the Presidential Election slated for the 23rd of September. As such, 122 ballot boxes will be placed in the capital city Male’ out of which 55 will be for residents in Male’ and 67 for Male’ residents from outlying atolls.
