The chairperson claimed that some people have fake IDs to vote more than once in the presidential election

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) chairperson Hassan Latheef has said that they have face recognition technology.

In an interview with RaajjeTV in HA. Dhidhdhoo on Friday, the chairperson claimed that some people have fake IDs to vote more than once in the presidential election.

Hassan Latheef said that the face recognition technology would be able to expose people with fake IDs.

“MDP now has the technology to compare the ID card photo and the holder’s face to confirm ownership.”

He warned that people trying to commit such fraud will be held legally responsible.

Face recognition is used rarely in the south Asian region, and the Maldives government has not implemented the technology yet.

Singapore and Malaysia use cameras with face recognition to monitor public streets.
