Elections Commission annuls re-registration forms in thousands, appeals to re-register anew
Some individuals had been informed of the cancellation of their forms through SMS
Annulled were approximately 5,000 - 6,000 forms
Forms sent for Police approval were also annulled

Elections Commission has on Thursday annulled over thousands of re-registration forms submitted at the commission.

The commission had informed some individuals through text that their re-registration has not been processed and that their forms are invalid. The text also reads to complete the re-registration procedure anew, before 06:00 p.m. on the 29th of August.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, commission member and spokesperson Ahmed Akram said that the commission has been sending said texts to individuals whose re-registration is deemed invalid. Akram added that some of these forms include the ones that were sent to the Maldives Police Service to confirm the validity of the fingerprints.

RaajjeMV understands that about 5,000 – 6,000 forms have been annulled and window for re-registration will be re-opened on the 27th of August.

According to credible sources, those who had not applied for re-registration had received the termination message as well. Following this, several have taken their concerns to social media, and the commission has drawn heavy criticism for allegations of attempting to influence the upcoming Presidential Election slated for 23rd of September.

So far, the only ones to be contesting in the September Election are President Yameen and his running mate Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his running mate Faisal Naseem from the joint opposition coalition.
