Joint Opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has vowed to recover the money embezzled from Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
Speaking in N. Manadhoo on Wednesday, Solih said that he will begin an investigation on the MMPRC embezzlement scandal on his first day in office.
Solih said that the money lost were meant for financing development projects and warned the Auditor General and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) members that he will find those behind the crime and make them answerable.
He said that the Auditor General and ACC should disclose all the information regarding the case and that he would hold them responsible if they do not.
He also said that almost all the uninhabited islands in Noonu atoll have been given out to two or three people and that the issue is already in court.
Solih made some pledges during his trip to Manadhoo including building and distributing flats equally to the locals as well as developing the atoll terminal. He also pledged the establish a market to sell food products from other islands.
