WLT heads to Supreme Court with USD 112m charges raised against State

Supreme Court will hold a hearing at 10:30 on Thursday morning

Both Civil and High Courts ruled against WLT

WLT is suing the State for damages and losses regarding a resort development project

World Link Travels (WLT) of which Villa Group is a shareholder, has appealed its case against the State to pay up MVR 1.7 billion (approximately USD 112 million) at the Supreme Court.

The appeal was made at Supreme Court after both the Civil and High Court ruled against the company.

WLT is suing the State after Airport Investment Maldives (AIMS) in 2007, contracted the company with a resort development project, and had failed to grant access to islands that were to be developed under the resort development project afterward.

The company had estimated damages and losses to be US Dollars 112 million as well as an additional loss of US Dollars 16.9 million, which was taken as advance payments for the islands.

The Civil and High Courts had ruled for the State to settle the amount of US Dollars 16.9 million taken as advance payment. However, the State had also appealed, refusing to reimburse the amount.

The Supreme Court will hold hearings for both the appeals on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
