JSC appoints judge Shujau as Head Judge of the High Court
 
His appointment comes after Didi's appointment to Supreme Court bench
 
Usman was appointed with a majority of votes from JSC members
 
The appointment was made at a JSC meeting held on Wednesday

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced its decision to appoint High Court judge Shujau Usman to the post of Head Judge at a meeting held on Wednesday.

The commission made the decision after a vote taken at Wednesday’s meeting with the majority of members who joined.

JSC is yet to reveal the details of the vote or the names of the members who votee in favor of appointing Usman as Head Judge at the High Court.

Usman’s appointment to Head Judge comes after his predecessor, Abdulla Didi was appointed to the Supreme Court bench in late June.

Usman was appointed to the bench of judges at the High Court on the 08th of June 2015 and he previously served as a judge at the Criminal Court. Usman was in the bench of three judges who issued former President Mohamed Nasheed’s 13-year prison conviction. Prior to that, Usman held the position of judge at the Magistrate Court in Hulhumale’.
