Privately run news station Raajje Television, which was fined by MVR 2 million this week, will receive compensation for their losses, says MP Ahmed Mahloof.

The Galolhu-South constituency representative said this in a post on his Twitter account, adding that the members of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission themselves will do this.

The parliamentarian’s tweet translates to, ‘The sacrifice RaajjeTV and its journalists make are immense. RaajjeTV is one station that has made tremendous contribution to reform. The financial losses they incurred because of this fine will be compensated for soon. Commission chief Shaheeb and MBC members will do this’.

The commission slammed Raajje Television with a fine of MVR 2 million, its fourth fine against the station. The fine was imposed on the grounds of defamation, over comments made by a protester at a rally broadcast live by the station.
