So far, only opposition candidate Solih and independent candidate Naseer have submitted their forms

An independent candidacy has been submitted to the Elections Commission for the upcoming September ballots on Wednesday.

According to the Elections Commission, Hussain Naseer from Male’ Registry 6562, had submitted his candidacy papers on Wednesday and the form was accepted by commission member Amjad Musthafa.

Sheikh Nasrulla Musthafa is up for Naseer’s running mate in the Presidential Election slated for the 23rd of September.

The commission revealed that Naseer and Musthafa’s candidacy has been accepted and that they are working to confirm the validity of the 1,500 endorsement signatures.

While the deadline for submitting bids ends within three days, the Elections Commission so far received only two submissions, one from opposition coalition’s candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his running mate MP Faisal Naseem and the second from Hussain Naseer.

Former Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer has received over 2,000 endorsement signatures to submit his bid, but is yet to announce a decision on running in the election.
