President Yameen must be investigated over cover-up regarding Rilwan's disappearance: ex-President Nasheed
08th August marks four years since Rilwan's dissapearance
President Yameen's cabinet ministers confessed that he himself ordered the halt of the investigation
'President Yameen must be held accountable for this'

Self-exiled former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that "President Yameen must be investigated for his role in covering up the details of journalist Ahmed Rilwan’s disappearance."

Nasheed said this in a tweet posted on his official twitter account on Tuesday afternoon.

In the tweet, Nasheed highlighted former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s recent statement by saying that members of President Yameen’s government including his cabinet have said that the President himself had ordered the to be stopped.

Jailed former VP Adeeb had released this statement on Tuesday which marks four years since Rilwan’s disappearance. He called on the imminent government to re-open the cases of such persons whose families have been deprived of justice, and to conduct their trials in a hall large enough for citizens to partake in, in his statement.

Nasheed in his tweet, went on to say that the President “must be held accountable for this".

Speaking to residents of Gaaf Dhaal atoll Madaveli island on Tuesday, President Yameen said that there was 'no doubt' that Rilwan is dead. Following his former VP’s statement about him halting a cabinet-level probe into Rilwan’s disappearance, President Yameen responded by asserting that the cabinet had not conducted any such investigation.

Adeeb, in his statement, claimed that the criminal court verdict in Rilwan’s abduction case had itself, revealed police negligence in the investigation. He further stressed that President Yameen had overruled the investigation of his cabinet through the cabinet’s official Viber group without having stated a particular reason. Adeeb revealed that all of the cabinet ministers had known of this fact.
