Maldives Joint Opposition’s presidential hopeful Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that his administration will include a shelter program especially targetting citizens of Male’ city, in the opposition’s manifesto for the upcoming presidential elections.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating an opposition campaign site in Mahchangoalhi ward of capital city Male’ on Saturday afternoon, Solih revealed plans to establish a nation-wide shelter program during his tenure.

“While a shelter program for all citizens of the country will be established in a government led by the opposition coalition, we will, with the grace of Allah, establish a shelter program specialized for citizens of Male’” said Solih.

Highlighting that living in the capital city has proven to be the most problematic out of the entire scatter of islands that make up the Maldives, Solih said that the capital city is the most congested, with unrelenting roadblocks as well as an unsolved issue of incomplete harbors. He revealed that an agenda to bring solutions to said matters will be amassed within the opposition coalition’s manifesto.

Moreover, Solih said that while campaign sites are being inaugurated across the nation with campaign activities proceeding full steam ahead, the most important thing now is re-registering.

“If the re-registration process goes smoothly, with the grace of Allah we will triumph in the September Election by a huge margin” the opposition candidate told reporters.

The campaign site opened in the capital city on Saturday, named “Jazeera Maizan”, is the first of it’s kind to be opened in the city by the opposition coalition. Solih had on Saturday morning, visited several households in the district on Saturday morning to check on the living conditions of citizens as well as to inquire on citizens necessities’, as well as acknowledge what they are lacking.
