Opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and running mate Faisal Naseem will win the 2018 presidential elections with over 70 percent of the votes, predicts former President Mohamed Nasheed.
In a tweet sent out in Dhivehi on Wednesday night, the leader of the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) said the opposition candidate will take '71 percent' of the votes.
Nasheed's tweet translate to "the support for opposition parties' presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is very clear. Elections Commission has accepted 24,000 re-registration forms thus far. Out of this, 17,000 was submitted by the Joint Opposition. We will receive 71 percent of the votes across the country".
While the former president predicts a win for the opposition in September's ballots, the opposition has accused the Elections Commission and the government of fraud by re-registering voters to wrong locations or failing to provide slips confirming their re-registration.
In addition, they maintain that a free, fair and inclusive elections is impossible with the current Elections Commission. The current Commissioner was appointed in March this year and was active in President Abdulla Yameen campaign for re-election prior to that.
