A board member of the Local Government Authority (LGA) has been dismissed from his post at the housing ministry for taking a stand against the authority's decisions.
RaajjeMV understands that Amir Ali's dismissal comes after he refused to take part in a vote to suspend 26 island councilors over a primary held by the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
In addition, he has been taking a stand against the board's decisions at meetings, accusing it of abusing its powers.
Amir was appointed to the LGA board in 2014, after being granted approval by the parliament. He represents the civil societies.
While RaajjeMV understands that President Abdulla Yameen dismissed him as coordinator at the housing ministry earlier this month, he remains as a board member at the Local Government Authority.
An LGA board member can only be removed through the parliament.
