Elections Commission sends letters to ministries asking to 'help' employees to re-register

Elections Commission has asked government offices to 'help' its employees to re-register for the upcoming elections.

While the Commission sent letters to all ministries, RaajjeMV has acquired a copy of the letter sent to the education ministry.

It asked the ministry to collect the forms of all employees that wish to re-register and to send them to the Commission with an official letter before August 11.

Confirming that it had sent such letters, EC said that this was done 'to make the re-registration process easier for all state employees'.

While this was done during previous elections as well, some state employees recently expressed concern over government offices forcing them to re-register at these locations.

In addition, the opposition has accused the governing party of forcing state employees to re-register at government offices. However, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) denied this and said that it has not received any reports of such unlawful acts by employees.
