Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has issued a commemorative on the 53rd Independence Day of Maldives.
The commemorative coin was introduced on the Independence Day ceremony on Thursday night by President Abdulla Yameen.
While the coin was issued on Independence Day, which celebrates Maldives independence from the British on 26 July 1965, MMA stated that the coin was to mark the 50th Republic Anniversary, which celebrates the country becoming a republic on 11 November 1965.

The coin has a face value of MVR 150, weights 28.28 grams, is 38.61 millimeters in diameter and contains 950 ounces of gold on the gold plate.
MMA further stated that the coin’s price will be announced on July 29 and will be available at the central bank.
