The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has revealed its decision to resume issuing small denomination bank notes and coins from June 16 onward.
An announcement by the central bank revealed that the service was halted due to the Covid-19 lockdown declared across the Greater Malé Region on April 15 and they will be resumed on June 16.
This comes as the government began implementing the lockdown ease in the Greater Malé Region on May 29.
These services will be provided every Tuesday and Thursday until the end of the ongoing month, said MMA.
Further, individuals are requested to SMS or Viber their name, ID card number or passport number, current address, contact details and the detail of the service if they require the service, to 7919292.
Permits will then be obtained through the Maldives Police Service to provide services. The permits will include the date and time to visit the central bank to acquire services.
Up until June 13, the central bank is to open for essential services on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday from 9:30am to 2pm.
Their services to the general public are currently halted.
Further, it has been revealed that MMA and other banks will remain open four days a week from June 14 to June 30.
As such, the central bank and other banks will be open for services from 9:30am to 2pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
