Maldives Joint Opposition has revealed that their presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and running mate Member of Parliament for Kaashidhoo constituency Faisal Naseem are set to submit their application to contest in the September election on Thursday.

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) stated that the official event to submit Solih and Naseem’s candidacy forms will begin in front of the MDP Head Office on the 26th of July at 09:45 a.m.

MDP has sent invitations to members of their National Congress as well as senior officials of the opposition.

MDP holds special events when submitting the candidacy forms in each election. The party began holding such events in front of their head office in 2013's presidential election.

The parties in the opposition coalition decided to back Solih as their presidential candidate after MDP elected him at their party congress held on the 30th of June at Alif Alif atoll Ukulhas island. Faisal Naseem was nominated as Solih’s running mate at a Jumhooree Party council meeting on the 13th of July.

The Joint Opposition officially began their campaign activities after electing Solih and Faisal, who have, with the opposition's campaign teams, conducted door-to-door campaigns in capital city Male’ and Hulhumale' as well as visited numerous islands.

Elections Commission has extended the deadline to apply for candidacy for the election to the 10th of August.
