The Elections Commission (EC) has revealed that 35 ballot polling stations will be placed in resorts for the Presidential Election.

The EC on Thursday, revealed that polling stations will be placed in 28 more resorts in addition to the initial seven resorts,

EC stated that opportunities will be opened up to re-register at resorts with over 100 Maldivian workers.

Their previous decision was to place polling stations in only seven resorts, which had over 250 eligible voters but the change to add polling stations to more resorts came mere hours after ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) Deputy Leader Abdul Raheem Abdulla called to revoke the decision.

While the Presidential Election has been slated for the 23^rd of September, re-registration opened on the 17^th of July and will proceed till the 11^th of August.

EC spokesperson Ahmed Akram told RaajjeMV that the change was made due to the concerns from several resort managements, and assured that the commission will provide full support to ensure that things go smoothly.

The commission had initially announced on Monday that they will be setting up 452 ballot boxes for the September election, including 56 polling stations for residents registered in capital city Male’, 72 for residents from outlying resorts registered in Male’ and 31 in the southernmost Addu City.
