Jailed Adhaalath Party leader Sheikh Imran Abdulla’s teenage daughters have said that they support him in his work for the country.

Imran’s 14-year-old Nusaiba binth Imran and 13-year-old Naushan binth Imran used their mother, Mariyam Reem’s Facebook account to express their sentiments regarding their father’s work and incarceration.

Nusaiba said that she wants her father to be a free man, but that she intends to show him her love by ‘supporting him’ in his reform work.

In a different Facebook post, Naushan also said that she wished for their father to be free as well, and to travel with her whole family.

“But fighting and doing what he loves for his country is more important that what I want. I will support him all the way,” added Naushan.

Imran’s wife, Reem told RaajjeMV that these were direct messages from their daughters and added that they ‘actually had a lot more to say’ on the matter. She assured that their children do not ‘at any cost’ want their father to stop his work for the country and that they support him completely.

The Adhaalath Party leader was found guilty of terrorism and sentenced to 12 years in prison in February 2016, over his speech at the 2015 May Day rally.

While he was transferred to house arrest due to maintenance work at his cell in Maafushi prison a few weeks ago, President Abdulla Yameen’s running mate Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has called on Imran to join him.

However, Imran has endorsed opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and running mate Faisal Naseem for the 2018 presidential elections, which is to be held on 23rd September.
