Minister Muizzu declares official name of CMFB
The bridge has been completely merged between the capital city and its urban extension
USD 200 million is being spent on its construction out of which USD 116 million is free aid and USD 72 million is loan from China
The bridge is to be named 'Sinamale Bridge'

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared that the official name of the China Maldives Friendship Bridge is to be “Sinamale Bridge”.

Minister Muizzu revealed this in a tweet he had posted on his official twitter account on Thursday afternoon.

The Academy of Dhivehi Language had opened opportunity to submit possible names to officially name the China Maldives Friendship Bridge in November 2017. The qualifications to pass a name then were that it had to be an easily pronounceable name, a name that represents both countries, Maldives and China, a name that consists a maximum of nine letters and one that interprets a respectable meaning.

While over 1,000 expatriate workers are working on the construction of the China Maldives Friendship Bridge, USD 200 million is being spent on its construction, out of which USD 116 million is free aid and USD 72 million is loan from the government of China. The government of Maldives is spending USD 12 million on this project.

While the government of President Yameen had previously declared that the bridge which was contracted to China's CCCC Second Harbour Engineering Company Limited, will be opened in July, later postponing it to August, it has now merged the capital city to it's suburban extension Hulhumale' completely.
