MP Ahmed Mahloof is to be summoned to court on Wednesday at 11am for his last hearing regarding the state’s charge of false reporting over a tweet he had made.

Mahloof has been ordered to be under house arrest for the rest of his trial.

Mahloof was charged for a tweet he made on January 20 in which he accused authorities of killing detainees through negligence. In the tweet, he said that authorities are killing detainees by denying them necessary medical treatment, highlighting the fact that 10 detainees die in prison within a year.

“Commissioner Shiyan and DOP Salman must take responsibility. I don’t know how many times I’ve made this complaint while I was in prison” Mahloof said in the tweet.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Mahloof said that the state alleged that he had given a false report to the correctional service, but that the correctional service has stated that it had no complaint regarding Mahloof.

If found guilty, Mahloof will face four months and 24 days in prison. The last hearing was previously cancelled after being scheduled for last week. The court is to hear the summary statements in the last hearing, and the presiding judge has given his verdict right after the summary statements is heard in previous trials.
