The Elections Commission’s deadline for submitting complaints regarding their voter’s list for the upcoming presidential elections is to expire on Wednesday afternoon.
The commission will be accepting complaints until 01:30pm on Wednesday. The window for complaints was set from 11th to 20th June.
Complaints can be filed at the Elections Commission headquarters in capital city Malé, local government council offices in the islands, and in district offices for cities such as Fuvahmulah and Addu.
The list was publicized on the government gazette and on the commission’s website on 10th June. Those eligible to vote can check their status through the gazette, website, or through SMS.
The commission said on Monday that it had received 34 complaints. The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party has also been vocal about discrepancies in the list, most notably about it not including the national identity card numbers of individuals.
The party’s presidential candidate Mohamed Nasheed has blatantly described the commission’s list as seeming to be an attempt at electoral fraud.
