Officials of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have met with the Elections Commission and conveyed their concerns over the commission’s voters list for the upcoming presidential elections.
The meeting was held on Monday and party officials met Elections Commission chief Ahmed Shareef and primarily expressed concerns regarding the process of filing complaints pertaining to the list.
Ahmed Niyaz, administrative deputy of the party’s chairperson, said that to file such complaints applicants need to attach with a number of supporting documents, which are difficult to attain.
“Filing complaints require a multitude of supporting documents that are difficult to acquire and realistically cannot be done within the window provided by the commission” Niyaz said.
The party had also raised concerns about the voter’s registry not including the identity card numbers of voters beside their name.
