Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has been transferred to the state-run detention facility in Maafushi island.
The former president had been detained at a facility in Dhoonidhoo island since his arrest this February. The transfer is part of a recent jail sentence passed against the former strongman.
Maumoon, who was in office for thirty years, was sentenced this week to over a year in prison after a Criminal Court judge found him guilty of obstructing justice.
Maumoon was sentenced along with Supreme Court chief justice Abdulla Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed.
