The Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has declared that action will be taken against surfers in the China Maldives Friendship Bridge region.

An announcement made by the ministry states that albeit surfing in the bridge region being banned, it has come to the ministry’s notice that some continue to surf in the region nowadays. The statement further reads that strict action will be taken against those who continue surfing in the area despite the ban.

According to the ministry, hefty machineries and massive vessels are being used in the temporary site allocated for the contractor between Usfasgandu area and Lonuziyaaraiy Magu due to which safety is not ensured in the area.

Surfers had previously complained following the announcement of the China Maldives Friendship Bridge construction, having expressed their concern after the government could not keep up it’s promise to allot a new surfing spot for them.
