Former President Mohamed Nasheed’s campaign manager and Member of Parliament (MP) for North-Hithadhoo constituency Mohamed Aslam has said that the Elections Commission (EC) had publicized the voter’s list in a problematic way for observers.
Aslam added that the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will conduct door-to-door campaign to check what citizens require and that they will put in their best efforts to investigate any issues the citizens have with the current voter’s list.
The MP said that the voter’s list has been published in the Portable Document Format, highlighting that this was not the way the EC used to follow through.
Aslam further said that they had made a request at the commission to attain the voter’s list in excel format, adding that the commission is yet to respond to their request.
Speaking about opposition leader and former President Mohamed Nasheed’s campaign activities, Aslam said that Nasheed’s candidacy in the Presidential Election will be officially announced on the 13th of June.
Aslam further called on the people to partake in the campaign activities that are set to begin in the outlying islands in the near future. Some of the activities in Nasheed’s campaign include, bicycle rides, campaign walks as well as a fishing race organized by the youth. Aslam added that these activities will come to a conclusion with an Iftar.
