‘Shareef said his appointment is like having Yameen in EC’
Shareef was appointed as President of EC on Tuesday, the same day he was sworn in as a member

North Fuvahmulah MP Ali Shah cited ruling party members saying that Ahmed Shareef told them that appointing him to the Elections Commission (EC) was akin to having President Abdulla Yameen in the commission.
Shareef was appointed as President of EC on Tuesday, the same day he was sworn in as a member.
At an opposition press conference held after the appointment, MP Shah described Shareef as being a politician who cannot be impartial. He also pointed out that Shareef has been involved in getting President Yameen elected in this year’s election.
Shah also said that the opposition coalition does not believe that the current parliament sittings are legal, and that they will not accept any parliamentary decision with Speaker Abdulla Maseeh resides in the sitting.
